Who We Are
Community Homes of Patagonia, Inc. (a.k.a. CHOP) is a locally controlled Community Land Trust (CLT) that provides affordable housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents of the Patagonia area. CHOP is an open-membership nonprofit corporation that owns land and holds it “in trust” permanently for the community’s benefit. CHOP works to promote resident ownership and control of housing, keeping it affordable for current and future residents.

CHOP’s housing programs provide benefits to both the homeowner and community. The homeowner obtains security, a fair home equity, on-going support from CHOP, and an opportunity to keep housing affordable. The community obtains a resident workforce, full-time residents that contribute to community services, a say in the management of local land and resources, tax-deductible donations, and a diverse population.
